Compassion Is A Cure

This morning I was charging around my condo collecting things I needed to fix a very simple problem. All at once I stopped, a sharp pain rocketed up my leg. My confident steps had forced a shard of glass into the bed of my foot.
-
It would not come out like a splinter. I tried pulling it out with my nails, then regular tweezers and finally realized that I needed to "dig it out". When it finally popped out, I stared at it puzzled as bright red blood poured from the tiny wound. This piece of glass was tiny, probably .5mm with tiny jagged edges. I cleaned the wound with care and covered it with a Band-Aid. It doesn't hurt any more.
-
But I wonder:
What if I could not clean it by myself and I had noone to #help? What if I didn't have the needle nosed tweezers to dig it out without causing more damage? What if I didn't have disinfectant? What if I didn't have a bandage? What if I was homeless?
-
That tiny wound have kept me from walking well. The glass could have dug deeper into my foot. An infection could have set in. I could have died from that tiny little wound.

Tiny wounds can erode health. Emotional wounds can kill a spirit. Negative #SelfPerceptions can kill #motivation. Trauma can kill #compassion. #Depression often takes lives.
-
It is our own responsibility to take time with ourselves and figure out what inside needs healing. Acknowledging underlying issues IS painful. But ignoring pain only makes it harder to reach personal #potential. Most of us benefit from professional navigation through turbulent emotional waters.
-
Be #compassionate with yourself through the process. Compassion is a cure. Compassion for yourself will #grow your capacity to care for others.

I implore you to spend some time examining your life, your perceptions and your actions. Growth comes from finding mistakes with lessons and letting go of shame. I am on this journey, too, doing my best to become the best version of me. Join in and build your own #2020UnfilteredReality
